Per Murrieta Police Department Press Release Dated 8/14/2018

On August 2, 2018, the Murrieta Police Department Special Enforcement Team served a search warrant at a Murrieta residence after receiving information regarding a possible illegal marijuana grow at the location. Inside the residence, the SET team located 2800 marijuana plants and discovered $46,000 in stolen electricity. The investigation led to three additional locations in Murrieta that were related to the illegal marijuana grow.

On August 10, 2018, the SET team served search warrants at the three residences. Inside each of the locations, the SET team located large illegal marijuana grows and the theft of electricity. In all, the SET team recovered over 7000 marijuana plants and the theft of over $200,000 in electricity. Stealing electricity poses a threat to not only the criminal, but to the nearby homes and businesses. At one of the locations searched by the SET team, they located an electrical bypass that sparked a fire in the garage. Luckily the fire was extinguished before any significant damage was done.

Eight adults were arrested for Grand Theft, Grand Theft of Utilities, Conspiracy, Possession of Marijuana for Sale and Cultivation of Marijuana and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
