For any Jurassic Park fan, Fallen Kingdom brings both the feelings of action-packed excitement and tear-jerking heartbreak to their brink for the common audience and animal rights enthusiasts alike. For round two, the horror elements are finally back and are executed in tasteful, yet frightening ways.
Favorite characters return with Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and a supporting cast. The mission: to return to the Isla Nublar on a supposed rescue operation at the behest of Benjamin Lockwood. Upon return, Claire is promised sanctuary for the remaining animals.
The question of whether the de-extinct creatures deserve the same rights as modern-day animals plays a role of its own in this movie. With Claire leading the Dinosaur Protection Group, she believes we now live in a world where dinosaurs and humans must co-exist. The true antagonists of the movie believe the dinosaurs would make great battlefield weapons for profit. This movie earned its PG-13 rating for good reason due to its typical jump-scares and the last moment we see of Isla Nublar before it is engulfed by lava, a scene that will stick in the mind of audiences for years to come.
Not only do the horror elements bring a refreshing take to the franchise, but in the words of Ian Malcom, a reprised role by Jeff Goldblum, “Life finds a way,” with this film.
