Accoring to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday May 02, 2017, about 2355 hours, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation regarding aircraft pilots being affected by a laser emitting device. The aircraft laser strikes occurred in the area of Sun City Blvd and Murrieta Rd, Menifee. Initial information was learned that pilots from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Bureau, who are part of the Special Enforcement Bureau, were affected by a laser emitting device during the May 2nd incident. Over the course of several months, there were additional aircraft laser strikes and the investigation revealed the location where the laser emitting device originated.
On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, a search warrant was authorized and served by members of the Special Enforcement Bureau at a residence located in the 25000 block of Interlechen Drive, Menifee. Several laser devices were located and a suspect was identified. The suspect, identified as George Tucker, age 56 of Menifee, was later arrested and booked at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center for 247.5 PC (discharging of laser at an aircraft).
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public of the dangers associated with pointing laser emitting devices toward aircraft. Doing so is a State and Federal crime.
