Sheriff’s K9 Takes A Bite Out Of Crime In French Valley

On 02/20/18, officers from the Temecula Special Enforcement Team (SET) received information regarding the possible whereabouts of two subjects wanted on outstanding felony warrants. The subjects were reportedly living in a travel trailer on a piece of property within the 32300 block of Yates Rd.

Officers arrived at the location and approached the travel trailer on the property. As the officers made their approach, a male subject immediately fled on foot onto a neighboring property. The subjects efforts to elude the officers on foot failed and he was ultimately intercepted and arrested without incident. The male was later identified as Che Smith, 27 years from French Valley. Smith had two (2) active felony warrants for his arrest (1-Vehicle Theft from Orange County, 1-Violation of PRCS from Riverside County).

Cheyenne Hunter, 25 years from French Valley was located and detained outside of the travel trailer without incident. Hunter had one (1) active felony warrant for her arrest (Grand Theft from Riverside County). As the officers were taking Hunter into custody they became aware that a third subject had also fled on foot out of their line of sight. The third subject was believed to be hiding on the property so the Temecula K9 Unit began checking the immediate surrounding structures.

As the officers approached a storage shed, the K9 Unit alerted. Multiple verbal announcements for anyone hiding to come out and surrender were met with no response. Robert Felix, 34 years from Temecula, was located hiding inside of the shed and taken into custody with the assistance of the K9 Unit. Felix sustained a single dog bite injury and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in order to receive treatment for his injuries.

While conducting their investigation, SET officers located illegal drugs, a reported stolen vehicle and an unregistered firearm at the location. The three subjects were later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on the following charges:

Che Hunter – (2) Felony Warrants,  Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to sell, Possession of Heroin with intent to sell, Convicted Felon in possession of a firearm, Possession of stolen property, Convicted Felon in possession of ammunition.

Cheyenne Hunter – (1) Felony Warrant.

Robert Felix – (1) Felony Warrant, Resisting Arrest.
