Trader Joe’s Founder Dies At 89

Published

on

It is with deep regret that we report Joe Coulombe has passed away. Joe opened his first store in Pasadena CA. back in 1967. What started as a little local store with a few hippies as a following, turned out to be a retail giant with over 500 stores in over 40 states.

I have always enjoyed shopping at Trader Joe’s. From the small feel of the corner store to the friendly customer service, it is always fun shopping at Trader Joe’s.

Sources tell us that the success of the stores was based on the fact that the model of purchasing was buying directly from the wholesalers and cutting out the middleman. It has been said that Joe prided himself on checking out every vintage of wine from California’s Napa Valley, including the famous Charles Shaw Two-Buck Chuck. I think it’s safe to say if you’ve shopped at Trader Joe’s you have purchased a bottle or two.

Rest in Peace Joe, and thank you for giving us a different shopping experience.
